Certified Phlebotomy Training Program
Phlebotomy Program
Students will learn about the duties and responsibilities, the work environment and safety considerations as they relate to the job of a phlebotomy technician; blood cells and blood vessels; methods of specimen collection, including venipuncture, capillary puncture, specimen transport, special phlebotomy procedures, including learning how to use laboratory equipment, running tests, performing procedures, and following guidelines for proper techniques.
Students will master the following skill sets: using proper order of draw, securing blood samples via venipuncture and capillary puncture, labeling tubes, processing specimens, as well as disposing of sharps and hazardous waste. Upon completion of the program, students will be eligible to sit for the MedCA certification exam.
